Does anyone have any recommendations for this book?  The second edition was printed in 2002, and I'm wondering if it is still relevant.  I have his audio book and found it informative.  If there are other good introductory sources for home theater, I'm all ears.

Four years seems like a long time.  Off the top of my head the only things I can think of that may be missing is 7.1, HiDef sources and new connections (HDMI).

IMO, you can learn everything you need to know from audio forums such as this.

Jakepunk,

I have this book as well, and I have found it very useful. It is full of up-to-date information for the experienced A/V enthusiast, as well as easy to understand for amateurs.

I give it a high recommendation, and a must have for anyone wanting to expand their knowledge about A/V systems and applications.

Like Max said, alot of the newer high rez interconnects are not explained.

4 years ago I was running 7.1, and had HiDef LD as one of my sources. So the tech was out then, just might not have been covered in a book like that as it wasn't common tech back then.

Awh, come on.  We all know you had 5 old pro-logic receivers dazy chained to get your surround.  :P

Nahh, my VSX-39TX has 7.1 processing, and I've had it for just over 6 years now.

Although at one point I did actually think about running multiple receivers to run a setup similar in style to an SDDS 8 setup (SDDS 8 has 5 screen channels L/LC/C/RC/R).

But since it would've cost me nearly $6K to do that I figured it wasn't worth the hassle to buy 2 more 39TX's & 2 more speakers, and try and set them up when my front stage is all of 11' wide...
