Goodbye Red Wine TEAC....Hello Signature 30 !!!
« on: 21 Nov 2006, 06:44 am »
The king is dead.....long live the king.
I received my new Sig. 30 today....breaking in as I type. Didn't plan on getting one so soon. I'd had been very happy with my RW TEAC...got Vinnie's old one...but things happen. The TEAC was well traveled....to Rave's and then across the U.S.A. , north, south, east, and west....off so fellow AC members could have a listen. 8)
But....on its return trip back....it got damaged... :?
It was shipped up to Vinnie to take a look. Vin's a busy guy...said it might be the board...a short..or a few other things....would take some time.
He asked if I was interested in the Sig 30 ? Well... knowing the fine job he's been doing on his mod's, and all the great comments the 30 has received, I said yes. I'd not heard the 30....had opportunities....but missed the shows. He assured me, if you like the TEAC, you'll love the Sig. 30.... 8)
Know what....he's right. :green:

It arrived today....well packed....excellent enclosure...looks great - nice job Vinnie !!! Even has a "Made In the USA" sticker....nice touch !! :D
His info booklet states 100 to 200 hours for break-in....but it's sounding good now....and I'm guessing it will get even better....sweet !!!
By the way....its powering a large speaker, my Mirage M-3's....and it's having no problem with them at all....great !!

As I get more listening time , I'll post comments on what I like...or dislike.
Sad to see the old Red Wine TEAC off to "audio heaven", it was a good amp....but this Sig. 30 looks, and sounds even better.

Thanks again Vinnie....you were right on the money !!!!! :thumb:

Hi Chris,

Thanks for your post and I'm glad you are enjoying your Signature 30.

Yes, and you can let it run all day and then charge it at night and it will be ready again in the morning for more, so the burn-in process won't take too long.  Please keep us posted once you put some hours on it.  It sounds quite a bit better after the first 100 hours.

Don't be affraid to try any speaker you want.  Heck, I've got mine connect to MMGs right now and love it!   :thumb:

Since the new packaging, I have not had any problems in shipping.  These boxes are made by Louis and are well padded with some thick foam insulation that is custom cut to fit everything.  YOU of all people will need this if you are going to be doing any lone-wolfing in the future

Thanks again!

Vinnie

Chris,

Congratulations on getting the Signature-30. I know you'll really enjoy it. I have an RWA modded Teac also and the Sig-30 is even better. A real pleasure to listen to. It will be interesting to hear your report on it as it gets more time. I've always respected the generousity you have with your equipment and sharing your listening experiences on the forum.

Thanks for the kind words guy's..... :thumb:
It was the right move....its not a modded TEAC in a fancy box. (I was thinking that.... :nono: )
It's another amp altogether....and a better one at that.
I could see how this would make a very good simple system....a Sig. 30 -an Olive or SB or CDP - and speakers. Your done.... 8)

Still breaking in.....but sounding good.
I will compare it with another amp I own....20 watts....tubes....this one........but it will be awhile....time is short now, and still some other equipement coming back soon.

Thanks again....... :D

Hi Chris, does that Antares sound as good as it looks?  Fabulous design - love the heat sink effect on the superstructure.

My Sig 70s arrive today.  Will post my impressions of them vs my much loved but now departed Aleph 2's (sold - hope I've done the right thing!)

It does look and sound good. Gotta use the right speakers tho....hi-ef's.
Its a large amp....heavy....not bad with heat, only two large tubes. I didn't want alot of tubes. After hearing a similar KR Audio at a Rave, I liked what I heard, and purchased the Antares used. My only other tube amp is a Sophia Baby....everything else is SS and hybrid.

As others have posted saying the Sig. 30 is similar to a tube sound, I can compare and check it out.

There is no "perfect amp"....but there are alot of good amps out there....and I tend to like a variety of them.... 8)

Enjoy those 70's.....looking forward to your comments..... :thumb:

First....Vinnie, have a nice Thanksgiving !! :thumb:

:D..... :hyper:..... .......It sounds good Vinnie....really good !!
Bass is good quality, smooth, detailed. Sweet mids....nice highs. No hard edge like some amps. All this at low volume....well, low for me....about 80db.
Turn it up, it's even better. 8)
I'm using the EA modded Sony 7700, Paradisea dac (stock), and Mirage M-3 speakers....no problem powering them to high levels.
Sound has been changing....for the better. Mostly the bass...gotten stronger.
Been playing alot of different music....good mix of things....no problem.

So.....I am enjoying it !!!!!

Got it!  Chris, keep in mind that this is one amp that won't sound any better at night when the grid is less noisy

Cheers!

....I know that Vinnie.... ....but it does sound better at night....everyone is sleeping...
Maybe just for fun, I'll lay a power cord on top of the amp.... :jester:

My only complaint.....its not a space heater like some of the other amp's I own. Gonna get cold soon....

Let me ask you this....you know I own a few amp's....and I do move things around every so often. What happens if I leave the 30 unplugged for awhile (no ac recharger hooked up to the amp)?
Say a month. Do the batteries go dead ?
Thanks.......

Chris, I have the same situation with several amps and asked Vinnie the same question about the battery going down when not in use. He said it should last at least 6 months if it was fully charged and the charger unhooked from the back. I sure love my 30.

Hi Chris,

Great question and I need to add this to the User's Guide.  Here is an explanation:

Onemug is correct....If you are ever not going to be using the Signature 30 (or any Red Wine Audio SLA battery powered products for that matter) for a while, ie, storing them, you shoud ALWAYS fully charge the unit.  Then, unplug the charger from the Signature 30.  After about 6 months of storage, I would apply a "top-off" charge to the batteries (which won't take very long because they will not be dead).

Also, as I indicate in the User's Guide, if the charger plug is inserted into the charger jack of the Signature 30, make sure that the charger is connected to a live AC power outlet.  Otherwise, the batteries will slowly discharge back into the charger's internal resistance (about 800 ohms or so).

For some more general SLA charging habbits info, I added this link (scroll down):
http://www.redwineaudio.com/SLA.html

Best regards,

Vinnie
