Seems a bit odd, anyone know anything about these, I would imagine that they are an eastern import:

Who will be the first one to put this up against the Onix??

Have a good one,

Hi Paul,

It's interesting Parts Express jumping on the tube amp wagon. No doubt Bill at Response will chime in too but  cheap tube amps can be troublesome. Now, I'm not casting aspersions about this product because I've never had one in my hands, I'm only looking at the price point. If this amp isn't well built with quality parts and a decent design, this could become a nightmare for them because of warranty returns.

Now if the amp is 'decent', turning it into an even better performer by modding it, is really easy. About $100 in parts and maybe 2 hours with a soldering iron and you'd have a completely different sounding amp. That said, if it doesn't have good iron, there won't be much you can do about it being rolled off at the frequency extremes (short of the obvious).

It reads, "hand built," and it sports tube rectification. Two good signs. What is under the covers may be another story. I would never order one if I couldnt see what the transformers at least looked like.

Well, this may be only speculation but I am guessing these are Chinese sourced and made to a price point (very inexpensive price point). Most internal components can be upgraded but if the circuit is just 'thrown together', there is not much more you will get from the amp. More expensive components may "change" the sound but not make it better.  The transformers are another matter all together. As mentioned by Scott, if they are not up to par, the whole thing is a waste of time.
We all know China is capable of producing some decent stuff but when you figure in the profit marging PE has to make, one can assume these are very inexpensive pieces.
I use to inport products and know how the factories work. You can order 'bottom of the barrel" or top shelf quality. Most importers would order the bottom of the barrel pieces so they can buy more pieces, make some quick cash and move on. I am a bit sour now as I was burned badly due to transformer problems in a decent size shipment. I wanted the best quality transformers only to find out they were not suitable for US voltages and I had to throw away EVERY mains transformer. Thousands of dollars down teh drain.

This is not to say that the PE amps will now be reliable or even sound quite nice for the money but I'm out.
Again, this is all speculation until more information comes out by users.

I am very sorry you got burned Bill.  This hurts.

I believe the loudspeaker driver industry in China is also risky.  The products might look good on the outside, but motor tolerances are often questionable/loose/inconsistent.  There are a few decent loudspeaker products from SE Asia, but the "dice-roll" on most products isn't often favorable.
