digital player burn in
« on: 1 Dec 2006, 04:05 pm »
Hey this may be a dumb question but I have a new cd player showing up today and I imagine it will need some burn in.  Can I just put it on repeat and leave it on or do I need to have my amp on too and have the signal going all the way to the speakers?

You want to create a circuit so keep the cdp plugged into your preamp, but keep your preamp turned off.  If you have a passive pre, turn off your amp and maybe unplug it from the wall outlet.   you want some resistance on the IC on your cdp's output.

Is this right?  I was told at some point that it's better to have the preamp on in order to provide an active load.  Am truly curious....

i'm no pro whatsoever, this could be wrong.   i've always been told to put some resistance on the circuit,
and all that is needed is for the IC's to be connected but the pre or amp could be turned off.

unplugging the gear is safer for the gear itself, less wear & tear too.

EX:  just received a new TVC preamp.  in order to break it in i plugged my cable tv box into it and turned off my amp and unplugged it.   then, i crank the TVC volume knob up to about 95% full volume and simply leave it for 1/2 a day or so...i usually do this while at work or sleeping.

this way none of my other gear is on & no sound is coming through the speakers, which wouldn't be tolerable at the volume level i mentioned.

it seems to work great.
