Hi-freq hash from my speakers!
« on: 12 Dec 2006, 03:55 am »
Just noticed this.  I am nearly certain it's a new problem.  I have some really high-frequency noise, I'd estimate 12K+, coming from my tweets, audible (barely) in the listening seat.

Setup is: RWA-modded Olive (battery), Ack! battery-powered NOS DAC, TVC linestage, 845 SET monoblocks.

The front-end is new.  Could it possibly be the filterless DAC letting noise through?

Certainly can't be the amps, as it's both channels and they have been around awhile.

No power conditioning.  Since my only AC components are the monoblocks, and amps are best direct-to-wall, I have nothing but a PS Juice Bar.

Any thoughts?

I do, but I am too lazy to go out to the garage to get it!  Can you help with that? :?

Hey, that is a smashing idea indeed.  :D  I don't think much sometimes.

Actually, though, I just discovered the charge jack for the DAC had come out, and so it was not charging the last several nights, and the battery was nearly dead.  I wonder if that can cause noise.  I'll let it charge for an hour and see.

Start by just connecting part of the system.

Unplug it all and then just the amps.  THen Just amp and pre (unplug before), then just DAC and amp, then, DAC, CD, AMP, then DAC, Pre, Amp etc.

That will tell you bunches more.

Hope you feel like you have nimble fingers tonight!

Ok!  An hour later, charge for the DAC, and it's gone!  Just the usual very mild tranny/tube noise audible only 6" from the drivers.  Whew.
