Hello,

I am looking for some inexpensive ($100 or less) headphones for use at work, that will effectively block out random noise and chatter (not steady-state continuous background noise).

I will sacrifice sound quality for complete isolation.  They will be used with a 5G iPod.

I see that Audio Advisor has a few low-priced models ranging from $50 - $100 (AKG, Music Hall-Goldring, Grado).

Any recommendations would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Steve

Hey!

I got these Etymotic Research ER-6i for my recent trip to Thailand. I used them on the plane and they do superb job isolating noise. I was using them with my Apple PowerBook G4. :D

Here is a link about them on Head Room site.

But I got them at a local store in NYC B&H of which sell them cheaper.

Here are the rest of the line up

There are ER-6i and ER-6iB of which B is black. The white one aimed for iPod is $10 more! From what I know they are the same except the color and straight plug for the white one.

If you are comfortable with sticking them into your ears than you will be fine. Still, sound wise I still perfer the sound of my good old Grado SR60 that I bought back in 1996 :D

Take care,

Yep, the in-ears are your best bet: Etymotic ER-6/6i, Shure E-2, Ultimate Ears super.fi 3 pro, Whestone UM1.

If you want traditional style headphones, look at the Sennheiser HD280 or HD201.  They won't block as much sound as the in-ears, but some people can't stand in-ear headphones.
