Transfering images to linen or canvas
« on: 16 Nov 2006, 03:16 pm »
Does anyone know of a place that will take my images and transfer them to linen or canvas?  I'm looking to cover some acoustical panels with my photos.  When I do a search I get about 50 million results for iron-on transfers or scrapbooking.

Thanks,
E-

have you tried searching for Canvas printing or better yet Giclee printing?  I looked at the same idea, although canvas needs to have some sort of clearcoat, not sure  how a printed then clear coated canvas would do for acoustic panels.   That would probably be the only way my wife would allow me to put some up on the walls...

my first wife is a photographer, and I remember her doing murals on canvas.
There is a brush on agent that yeilds a sepia tone black and white print.
Try contacting a local pro photo supply house.

Well, it won't be cheap I can tell you that much!   Of course, you haven't said how large the panels are or how many you want to do.  A coated canvas will also be more acoustically reflective, you'd probably want to go the more fabric route.  Do a search for stuff like digital textile printing, large\wide format fabric printing, and such.  There's a lot of cool stuff out there.

If you don't mind making a series of smaller panels, you can actually use an ink-jet printer on special cloth designed for this.  Has a backer on it to feed properly that you then peel off.  The stuff I've seen would work fine for covering panels.

The only drawback is that you can only realistically print 7.5 x 10 - unless you have a BIG ink jet.

Artacoustic.com has a bunch of speakers with their grills painted or printed with artwork. Very pricey, but that would be the ideal fabric to use as it's supposedly acoustically transparent.

Looks like I've got a lot of websites to check out.  I guess I was just searching wrong.  Thanks for all of the replies.

http://www.acoustex.com/

They have a white paintable grill cloth.
I think it is about $35 sq.yd.
