What's replacing the Panorama?
« on: 11 Sep 2006, 06:09 pm »
Dropped by the ACI web site today and saw that the Panorama is being discontinued. Is there going to be a replacement? Panorama XL?

Enquiring minds want to know!

Theres got to be somthing up mike sleve, a bunch of discontinued models, old stcok lfms being cleaned out. Sounds like hes making room for th enext great speaker. I hope its a full range tower....somthing with 2 or 3 7" revelators for bass would be nice to my ears.

Well Gosh - Same 3 way design with updated drivers and a
new box that is perhaps slightly more compact, but even higher
performance. Perhaps loose an inch on the LF driver.

Not much breathing room on the current design, so the big change
is in the mid and tweet.

Mixed emotions here. I thought my speaker lust was nicely tucked away.

Hmmm...tweeter and mid from XLC and woofer from XL?

Of course, you could just put the XLC on its side and call it a Panorama.  :)

Id still like to see somthing like the XL with 3 7" revelators tucked right under neath the tweo wat monitr that is the
XL.

I just heard a B&W 803D that uses a simmilar 3 7" woffer deal and it was awesome, so was the price tag$$

I know Mike could surpass the 803D at half the price, what do you say Mike can it be done?

Thanks for all the input so far. Feel free to keep suggestions flowing. Fact is, we're always conceptualizing, modeling, and trying different ideas. Only a small number make it to a production design.

Exactly take the load off and add some real woofer surface area to throw some big sound, I dont want a little speaker that sounds big, I want a medium+ size speaker that sounds absoultly frakin huge!!

I would want depth kept to a minumum so it could be tucked back against a wall if at all posible even right on the wall into the corners, tought to make sound as good though...

This needs to be said. If you are looking for an awesome three-way monitor . . .  give the Panoramas an audition.  We are not planning on a replacement. Frankly, if we were to introduce the existing Panorama as a new model right now, you’d be looking at a price that is probably at least $1000pr. higher than what we’re selling them out at!  Ask anyone who owns a pair . . . these are wonderful speakers and they won’t be available for much longer.

Please do continue with any and all ideas for models we should be considering. I just don't want people to be disappointed because they are waiting for a 3-Way monitor that isn't coming, at least for a long time.

Thanks Mike. That's what I needed to know. Your reputation as a straight shooter is well earned.

I would love to audition the Panorama, but I live in Canada, and the logistics just don't work. Let's say you are willing to send me a pair for audition. I am paying shipping (and back if I don't like them) plus brokerage fees plus Canadian taxes just for the priviledge. Not trivial on 2 large (about $C 600), and not a good business decision on my part.

I respect your kit. I have pair of 25th Anniversary Sapphires. You are a serious dude.

Best ...

You know how good the 25th Anniversary Sapphires are, so you have a bit of an idea of how good the Panorama is. Tell us what you'd like to improve over your Sapphires and I and others who have heard both can give you a feel for what you could gain with the Panorama.

Well Alright! I suppose you could make some improvements in a few places, but I knew these were no contest in their pricepoint a long time ago.

A Big Floorstander would be sweet. Add a creative wrinkle by including a ribbon tweeter or maybe a dipolar design.
