Has anybody tried Siliclear on their tube pins?

What did you like or dislike?

Thanks,

George

George,

Never tried Siliclear but I use Walker Audio Extreme SST Silver Contact Enhancer on every pin in my system.  I used Caig's contact cleaner to clean everything and applied the silver.  Considering that there are 24 tubes on my amps and preamp, that's a lot of pins.  The effect is like a window cleaner.  Sound is just more transparent than without.

Actually, that's exactly where I started... a very thin coat on the bottom half of each pin, as it will spread down the pin as it is inserted.  A similar but lesser effect as a.c. conditioning...  and I felt that way with a BPT already in the system for about a year IIRC.   Dislikes?  None!  It dries within a few days to a powder coat, no mucking or clogging in the holes what-so-ever.  After 9 or 10 months I wiped off the pins on a tube (and rca pins etc.) and the surfaces looked brand new, same again after a year and a half!  No visible oxides at all...

After treating the tube pins I painted all my signal wiring contacts and later, much later, went back and did all the a.c. contacts as well, including fuses.

Allow a day or two for the bulk of the oil to evaporate for the full effect... of course!

I tried the Silclear. Both products say to use very sparingly. The Silclear can produce a "Hot sound" or increased sibilance.

I have tried the Walker SST Extreme and have never looked back since. Excellent product and the tubes never sounded better;-)

I would be careful about avoiding build up in the tube sockets if you roll tubes alot. Removing tubes tends to leave the Silclear in the sockets.
