This concert was recorded in 2002.

These guys all look old and fat, except Derek Trucks who is the son of the drummer.

Looks are deceiving though.  Warren Haynes looks like an ugly Lesley West, but boy does he smoke on guitar!!!

These guys are pretty good on this DVD...I only wish they had Dickey Betts with them.

And man oh man I wish I had some concert footage of the band with Duane...too bad he wrecked his motorcycle in '71 and took himself out....

Anyway, this is a decent showing if you like the Allman Brothers band.

That's Warren on the left, he looks better here than on the DVD:

and Leslie on the right:

How insulting is it to be called an ugly Leslie West?

BTW, Leslie is now lean and mean...all comparisons were to his previously sized persona.

I know of no dvds with Duane.  That would be awesome but you can get a few very choice live concerts from the Duane Allman/Dickey Betts days.  My favorite is Live at Stony Brook that was recorded shortly before Duane's death.

Allman Brothers Band
Stony Brook 9/19/71

Disc #1
Statesboro Blues [4:16]
Trouble No More [4:00]
Don't Keep Me Wonderin' [3:47]
Done Somebody Wrong [3:54]
One Way Out [5:08]
Blue Sky [11:26]
Stormy Monday [8:53]
You Don't Love Me [25:47]

Disc #2
Dreams [19:37]
In Memory of Elizabeth Reed [19:43]

You can order this from hittinthenote.com.

The Brothers still put on a great show.  I'm going to see them at the end of Sept. for their annual visit to Raleigh.[/url]

That "Live at the Beacon" DVD helped me through a year of remodeling!  I'd escape to the music and video room after long hours rebuilding my crappy house and crank up "the Beacon"!  That, and some Bells Two-Hearted IPA helped relieve the stress.
Great musicianship, Oteil Burbridge (check my spelling) is a bass phenom.

I agree, Oteil is a monster.  He used to play with the Aquarium Rescue Unit. That played several time at a local bar and Oteil's bass solos were always killer.  I've seen him a couple of times with his band, the Peacemakers, and it's very different from his work with the ABB.  More a jazz/fusion band, but still excellent.

  I know people who think a statement like that deserves nothing less then having at least one limb removed from your body.

I agree with you, Warren and Derek kick ass!  Old Friend is my favorite song on that dvd.

Dickey still kicks ass too with his band Great Southern.

Being an old fart, I saw the orginal Allmans and every incarnation in between.  IMO, this lineup is superseded  only the the originals.

I'll add that the early-mid 90s lineup with Warren and Dickey was pretty good to if you caught them on a night when all were sober.

I have been a huge fan of the Allmans since I saw them in Columbia Mo right before they recorded the Live Fillmore Album.  Also saw them once more with Duane in Chicago.  After that I saw them many times in thier various incantations.  They could be great or lousy depending on their intake of various substances.  Dickie in particular was incendiary or lousy, not much middle ground. I puchased his instant live cd from a couple years ago and I could not get through the first couple tunes.  He sounded badly out of tune to me and it was not the same Dickie.  I think alchohol has taken its toll.  It used to be when we went to see them after Duane died during the Chuck Levell period that everytime we saw them, Dickie would blow us away with some new guitar riff/technique.  It is such a shame as I just think he has kind of squandered his talents.  He apparently has had trouble with wife abuse as well.

Any way, I don't see any of that tendency in Derek.  He just keeps getting better and his new CD is awesome.

I watched the second DVD with all of the extras this weekend & I LOVED one thing Greg said -he was asked by the person intervening him how does he compare his music to the dead & all of the new Jam Bands of today & he said I hate the term Jam Band -We are a band that Jams -there is a root to all of the songs and we do not noodle around a lose jam .
Great Stuff~
