Spirit,
Easy CD-DA Extractor is VERY easy to use. You do not have to mess with downloading FLAC or any other program.
http://www.poikosoft.com/Just go the the site above and click on the download now icon. It will download a trial version of Easy CD-DA Extractor. You will then have 30 days to try it out before you have to pay for it.
The only things you have to do to set it up and tell it where to store your music. Something like c:Music would be a good choice.
The only other thing to do is to change the drop down menu to .flac. Set the compression level to 4 or default. This will not change the sound at all. This just determines how much space it takes up.
Once you have ripped a couple of CDs, I suggest you download the SlimServer software
http://www.slimdevices.com/su_downloads.htmlInstall it on your computer. It comes with SoftSqueeze. This is a Squeeze Box emulator. This way you can get used to how the Squeeze Box actually works before you buy one.
If you find you like the way it works, I do highly recommend Tirade's services. It will make life a lot easier if you just send him your music and an external hard drive. He can put all the music on it and tell you how to set up SlimServer to access it. This would be a relatively pain free way to get all you music on your computer.
I have tried the Olive products, but I feel the Slim Devices products are more what I want to access my music. I do feel that after mods the SB gear does sound better than the Olive.
I will have various levels of modded SB in room 1009 at RMAF. They will be hooked analog out directly to power amps with no pre-amp or external DAC in the way. Please feel free to stop by and check it out. Bring a CD with you and I will be happy to show you how to rip it and let you listen to it through the SB.
