My new apartment....
« on: 6 Sep 2006, 04:43 pm »

Dear List,

I just moved, yeah!  Anyway I now have a big living room, basically 15'Wx18'x8.5' tall.  I also bought a new mac laptop so I can run PC audio apps...I need to treat this room, it will be my first room treatment.  I am also broke, sorta.  I will be using it for TV watching and 2 channel listening.  I have small bookshelf speakers and maybe a sub at a later date.  I dont have a mic or even a spl meter.  I have read the archives on this forum, so I kinda of have an idea where to start...  I live in boston so maybe I can drive to get some panels, maybe not.  I am bouncing back and forth between DIY and gik and realtraps.  I am afraid that the DIY stuff will look like garbage, maybe sound like it as well.  I don't really have 1000.00 to spend on traps AND 325.00 to spend on a mic from acoustisoft.com and 150 to spend on software...  My speakers cost 400.00 from omega speakers.  I think that I could just get some panels and have a go with it...  Here is a photo I made in photoshop the floors are hardwood, i have one couch and a 27" TV.

Thanks,

Ken

I'm in the process of doing DIY traps. They do actually look pretty good. The thing is you'll need the tools, space and time to frame the panels. If you want to buy GIK is probably the cheapest while being very effective.
