Mark Knopfler to be on "Prairie Home Companion"
« on: 12 Aug 2006, 10:11 pm »
Man I love Mr. Knopfler, even more so, since I've become obsessed w/ the guitar. His record "Neck and Neck" w/ the late/great Chet Adkins was just priceless.

There may a lot w/ more flash, but few with more soul than Mark.

I think "Sultans" (from the first Dire Staits album) is one of the best guitar bits going. The first time I heard it, I called the radio station to find out who it was and then ran out and bought it. Oddly enough....his big hit "Money for Nothing" is probably my least favorite DS tune.

I'm going to tune in.....

drphoto...

If you haven't picked up Knopfler and Emmylou Harris's "All The Roadrunning"  you should.

Audio...killer.
Production...killer.
Performance..double killer.

Best album of the year imho.

3bean,

Yeah, dunno why I haven't gotten that. I saw them perform some of the songs on "Imus" on MSNBC a month ago or so, and thought they sounded good.

Saw his "Sailing To Philadelphia" tour stop in SD. Fantastic all round, outstanding venue Copley Hall, as well. A++

I agree with 3beanlimit, Knopfler & Harris make a great combination.  Not a bad cut on "All The Roadrunning"

The weird part is I picked it up on a whim, it was in a display rack by the checkout in Barnes & Noble.  Since I'm a long time Knopfler fan, I figured why not.  Got it home & WOW!

After reading the posts in reference to Mark Knopfler, I picked up both "Sailing to Philadelphia" and "All the Roadrunning".  So I have to say thanks to everyone who recommended these CDs.  Knopfler's lyrics and performance are top notch and you get a good dose of Emmylou Harris as well--and throw in James Taylor and Van Morrison to boot. THANKS!

The above comments led to me purchase "All The Roadrunning" but after a few weeks I can honestly say that it's not my cup of tea.  While some of the songs have grown on me just a little, most of this doesn't appeal to me at all.  Anyone with a strong aversion to country music might want to preview the disc in the store prior to making a purchase.

Why would Mark ever stoop so low to appear with that horrible liberal phony bum, Garrison Keillor? Garrison's "Prairie Home Companion" movie was sure a block buster....NOT!

I have many of Marks albums and I agree with many threads here that he is very talented at his craft. The albums are audiophile quality as well.

I am from Minnesota and I think most Minnesotans that I know would like Garrison to go away. Move back to Sweden or where ever you moved to in the first place. By the way, where did he get the phony accent and learn to talk like that?

Knopfler's albums take a while to grow on me, for sure. But I certainly enjoy Sailing and Ragpicker's Dream and Shangrila.

It must be a tape . I heard him on Prairie Home about 2 weeks ago with Emmy Lou Harris , performing songs from the album they did together .

I think that Mr. Keillor has an excellent sense of humor and is very talented. You must be one of those Norwegian bachelor farmers. As far as being liberal, just about every musician that I have known is at least a liberal which is hardly a surprise since an open mind is a prerequisite to be creative. If you like music, you will be mostly listening to the output of liberals.  :P

Mr. Keillor is a bore and doesn't know how to earn a buck the honest way. he's been fooling a lot of "suckers" for a long time and if you think his shows are funny, well....enough said. As for being a farmer, I do grow a garden. Mr. Keillor doesn't know what a garden or farming is about. There are many Republicans that listen to music, by the way and the last elections have over half of us voting for the right guys. The National Public Radio and Public Television are my new public enemy number one. They have an agenda that is very "corporate". They have plans to tell you what music, what movies and what educational things you should be viewing, to bolster their non-profit corporate position. I very much dislike them and everything they stand for...which is total control of the airwaves. Also, check out how many NPR stations are in your area, using public money, suckering in private donations to further their cause for corporate dominance. I encourage our legislatures to end public funding for any of this public liberal garbage!

If you don't believe in corporations, where do you work..The KGB? I never had a poor man or a non corporation hire me for a job. Liberals always hate the government until the day their check comes in the mail. The check they probably don't deserve.
