How Many Leonard Cohen Fans?
« on: 14 Aug 2006, 04:12 am »
Searched the site and found a thread a couple of years ago.

My favorite by far.

I have all of his albums and all three tribute albums.

My favorite songs of his are Anthem and Take This Waltz.

I really like Tori Amos doing Famous Blue Raincoat on the tribute album Tower of Song.

Anyone else?

I think I lie in the opposite camp - I actually like his more recent stuff more than the older music.  My personal fav is Ten New Songs, I really like the recording quality, and the combo of his voice, with female backup - and some fantastic bass lines too!

My favorite is the Future and I really like the Jennefer Warnes Old Blue Raincoat and the Judy Collins Democracy releases.  something about Cohen songs sung by women does it for me.

For me its "Suzanne", it makes me think fondly of McCabe and Mrs. Miller, a fine film from a fine time. Also "Sisters of Mercy" from the same film.

If you like Leonard Cohen, find Jennifer Warnes CD titled "Famous Blue Raincoat" the whole CD are Cohen covers, he sings with her on Joan of Arc, and SRV played guitar on a couple cuts. This CD may be hard to find.

Best,

Hi Paul,

The Jennifer Warnes 'Famous Blue Raincoat' tribute album has been big with audiophiles myself included for years.

Whats even better are two newer tribute albums entitled 'I'm Your Fan' and 'Tower of Song' where a bunch of artists do some incredible and different interpetations of his songs.

I think you'll be blown away Paul.

I cannot wait to be able to buy the new film Mr. Ogrady mentioned below.
