Mini Advent Speakers
« on: 19 Aug 2006, 09:53 pm »
Hi,
I received a pair of Mini Advent speakers from my dad.  They were intended to become part of a 5.1 HT system.  I have been using them as part of a portable stereo system with a Sonic Impact t-amp, which is powered by a 12v SLA and has a portable Sony cdp, or my Rio music hard drive connected to it.  It sounds pretty damned good for what it is.

What I want to know is, does anyone have any experience with these speakers?  I'd like to know a little more about them.  They sound a whole lot better than I had expected.

Hi,

I don't have experience with those exact speakers, but a few years ago bought
a pair of Advent Calypso speakers at Costco to replace the crummy speakers
that came along with an Aiwa stereo system I was using mostly to record
things off the radio. Later, I tried them out with other audio gear, and they
actually amazed me! They really sounded great with a Sonic Impact amp, and
I would use that as a portable system for outdoor/camping, etc., and ended up
giving them to my syster to use in her living room. I've since picked up another
pair on e-bay for about $45, they are an outstanding value. Have fun with
those, and hang on to them...you'll probably find plenty of use for them in the
future even as you move up to 'better' speakers.

Up till about 10 years ago I had a pair of Baby Advents powered by a Denon integrated as my main system.  Based on your photo's the Baby's seem like they were about double the size of your mini's. They were sold through slightly higher end retailers than CC or Best Buy (more like tweeter's or such).  Based on memory there was at least on size higher than the Baby's ( I do not remember the name and there could have been even more choices).  The sound / value / price ratio was always very high for the brand, as was the WAF.  I am not surprised you are enjoying them, I remember I did.
