Hi.

I am trying to decide whether to upgrade my SP 1.7 or  buy a SP 2 (selling off the 1.7).

Can someone tell me if the DACs , power supplies and the DSP processor are the same in the upgraded SP 1.7s (to SP2) and the SP2?  Any reason to buy a new one vs upgrade other than the front face cosmetics which are not important to me anyway...?

Thank you in advance!

    Here are the material differences and yes if you have the cash, its a no-brainer.  The noise floor is even lower than before (dead quiet) and the surrounds are much much improved - the DPLIIx processing helped there.

     * TI Aureus Audio DSP Chip
    * 7 x greater Processing Power
    * RS-232 Software Updates
    * DSP Firmware Updates via SPDIF
    * DTS 96/24 5.1 Surround Decoding
    * Dolby 96/24 Two-Channel Surround PLIIX Decoding
    * Four Independent Hi-Pass Subwoofer Crossover Points
    * 7.1 Decoding from 2-Channel sources
    * 96/24 Stereo Decoding
    * Dynamic Range Adjustment per Individual Input
    * New faster Micro-controller Board
    * New THX modes

Thank you for answering....

 So if I understand you correct, an upgraded SP1.7-to-SP2 is not really the equal to a new SP2?

No, I am sorry.  I misread your post and read it too quickly.  It is the same - just the faceplate is different as you stated.
I thought you were asking what the difference is between the 1.7 and the 2.
My bad!

Thank you! That helps.

If you are buying a new SP2, make sure you buy it from a Bryston authorized dealer.  There is a new policy in Bryston warranty as of this year that requires an original invoice from an authorized dealer.

Thanks! I would have it no other way but buy from a authorized dealer. Not worth the heart burn  of what kind of junk one is getting otherwise

Of course, even after doing everything right (including paying the sticker price) I still had hell of a time getting warranty repair from a overseas company whose name is a four letter word begining with a 'L'  and ending with an 'N'  and has 'IN" in between....But that is a story for another forum....I have never had a problem with Bryston when I had to service a product from them. And James Tanner was nice enough to talk to me when I called with questions.

A four letter word beginning with "L" ends with an "N", it sure brings a lot of audio company in my mind :scratch:  Anyway, congrats with your new SP2!
