ground loop hum

Ok, I've got a cable caused ground loop hum.  I've been able to remove a majority of it with the 75Ohm - 300 Ohm converter, back to back trick.  HOWEVER this, according to the cable numbnut is what is causing my ghosting and the remaining hum because now this acts like an attenna.  I know Jensen makes/made an in line "filter" that would kill ground loop hum but it was like $60 at Polkaudio.com.

I found a guy on ebay a while ago that made these or something and was selling them there, but the emails got purged from my system and now I can't find the guy.  Anyone have any ideas on either him or another fix??

Thanks.

Another thing you can try is to lift the ground connection on the power cords going to your preamp and/or power amp.

I believe you built some box that offers this option.

Try it and report back.

That I've done and it works great for the audio side of things, but the video still sucks on local channels because of the ghosting.  It's really bad.

I've tried the ground lifted or cheater plugs on both amps and it's not better with the ground lifted or the cheater plug in either case.  It does help with the preamp though.

Fortunately i only use my tv stereo when i watch a dvd -- then i have the cable hum -- then i disconnect the cable" in line" to stop the hum, but that in itself is a pain......

I have read on the net that Xantech Corp. has a "ground breaker"(part #634-00) unit that does the trick for only about $10. Unfortunately they do not sell to the public -- you must go thru a local retailer -- in my case it turned out to be a not off the shelf item and required a special order which almost doubled the price. Maybe you will have better luck in your area. Let me know if you do ----- i would like to try one to stop my ground problem also .........

It's not clear if this is anything special or just the 75ohm-300 in a fancy box. At $40, it's not cheap but it's less than the $100 for the Mondial M.A.G.I.C. or Tributaries models.
