So what does this mean?  Mass sales of modded SB2s and SB3s and Olive players?  Plummeting used SB2/SB3/Olive prices on the Audiogon market?  And then...mods from Red Wine Audio, right?  At least the Transporter price of $1999 makes the SB3 look like a bargain...

   I can't keep up with this stuff.

Whoa.... just because the new SD Transporter is coming out doesn't mean that it is going to replace the RWA modded Olive!  I actually prefer the Olive units to what SD is offering because I really am in favor of having a unit with built-in CD drive and hard drive and not having to interface with an external computer and the necessary SW.  I certainly have not heard the Transporter, but based on what it looks like you get for the $$$, the Olive Symphony and Musica seem to me to be a better value.

I *may* not even want to persue offering mods to the Transporter  , although I'm sure there are plenty others who will     Heck, I'd first need time to give it a really good listen and evaluation and I might not have the time for this when it comes out because I have other "plans." 

I am VERY happy with the sound of the RWA modded Olive and that has been my reference source since the Spring when I started modding it (and I purchased it last November and used it stock for a few months to really get familiar with it), and I love the features and the wireless remote with LCD screen is going to be the icing on the cake and according to Olive, will be ready around the fall

The good news for Olive owners is that the new Transporter supports Apple Lossless so perhaps the licensing issues have been resolved and Olive can support this format.

I don't think there's a licensing "issue" beyond the question of whether Olive wants to pay for the license or not.  Slim Devices decided it was strategically important to do so, and apparently Olve did not...

The SB also supported Apple Lossless.

So this is nothing new for Slime Devices products.

I actually prefer the Olive units to what SD is offering because I really am in favor of having a unit with built-in CD drive and hard drive and not having to interface with an external computer and the necessary SW.  I certainly have not heard the Transporter, but based on what it looks like you get for the $$$, the Olive Symphony and Musica seem to me to be a better value.

Vinnie, one thing that has held me back from pursuing the Olive route is that it doesn't seem like a very good value to me to pay a grand for 160gb of storage when I can pay about 120 for at least twice that much and just stick it in the computer I already have. And I prefer to use the computer's interface because I'm using it all the time anyway. If the Olive had some kind of ethernet or usb input (like the transporter) I'd be all over it. I think alot of people who use their computer heavily would agree with my. Just my two cents.

   Olive Opus does allow accessing music files from your PC, just the same as the Squeezebox. So the switch from SB to Olive is painless.

All the Olive units have built in Ethernet Hubs and a wireless antenna.  You can use them just like a Squeezebox to stream music from your computer to them.  They also have USB ports to connect an external USB hard drive.

If you rip your music on your computer to WAV files using iTunes, you can do it.  But FLAC is not supported by iTunes and Apple Lossless is not supported by the Olive 

While WAV files take up the most space, they seem to work with everything
