Hello Folks,

I read thru the informative post on bi-wiring or not, (which seems
to weight in favor of biwiring the 3A's), however I'd like to know more
about what brands of cables people are actually using.
I have a new pair of R3's i's and am using a very old pair
of no-name copper bi-wired (they look like older audioquest, nothing
fancy, but I'm thinking of up grading. I have had good results with kimber interconnects before and thinking of 8TC. What are olters using and happy with ?

best

I would say speaker cable choice is more relevant the amp choice than the speaker.

I have a customer using Kimber Bifocal X dirven by ASL AQ1006DT and couldn't be happier.

I am using 25 AWG solid core silver driven by 47Lab Gaincard.  Big cable doesn't work that well with the Gaincard.

Both my customer and myself are using Kimber Select interconnect.

Hello and welcome!

I actually upgraded from Kimber 8TC to Van den Hul D-352 Hybrid soon after getting the De Capos, and the improvement was significant. As I mentioned in the bi-wire thread, even going from bi-wired Kimber to a single run of the VdH was a big improvement.

Paul makes a good point that the speaker is not the only important piece of gear here. What is your other equipment? Maybe someone else will have specific experience with your other kit and be able to make a specific recommendation.

Thanks for the info.
I agree, its a synergy between the equ. that matters, optimizing this, however achieved, is benefical.
I am using McCormack DNA1 with TLC-1 with
Rega front ends. I had seen Chris's post, about the cabeling, and wondered specifically re the Kimbers.
Honestly, I'm not familiar with the Van den Hul's, but will check into it.

BTW  I think I'd like to try some SET's with these monitors and would love any newbie tips.

I've been looking towards modest CARY stuff..???

comments welcome

Hi again.

gja recently purchased a Cary Rocket 88 amplifier. Read more about that in the Antique Sound Labs thread .

stuartbranson has a Cary SLI-80 integrated.

Any Cary-specific tips, gentlemen? Any other Cary owners out there?

My take on SETs is that you just have to be sure they'll work with your listening preferences -- repertoire and listening volume. Since you're currently using a relatively muscular solid state amp, you'll hear the difference pretty clearly.

You can find more info on the Van den Hul cable lineup in this pdf from their site.

I bought a used pair of bi-wire JPS Superconductors about two weeks ago. They are a definite improvement over the bi-wire PR 4 Kimbers I previously used. I find them more open and clean without being cold and amusical.

On a different note, I have concerns over the matchup of my Rocket 88 and Audible Illusions 3a. It seems that the 88 requires a high output preamp, of which my AL3a qualifies, yet I still have to listen with the volume controls between 2 and 5 oclock. This means quiet tubes are a must. The AL3 has the MM board and my cartridge is the 4.5 MV Grado Reference. Cary is now offering a more sensitive "R" version of the 88 which requires a lower input voltage. Their old 88's can be upgraded for $500.00 (and a two week turn around time). Anyone been down this road yet?

TIA

Andy
