Nuforcec Reference 9 Special Edition
« on: 23 Jan 2006, 12:02 pm »
Available in late Feb, 2006. MSRP $2100 per monoblock with 5 year warranty and comes in rose copper color only.

Standard Ref 9 (version 9.02) position:  Nuforce's workhorse monoblock reference amp, one of the best in the world.

Ref 9 Special Edition position: Best in the world. For very high end system with world class components all around.  Diff from Ref 9 - overall refinement: cleaner DC supply to opamp, expensive capacitors array, etc.

Standard Ref 9 can be upgraded to Ref 9 SE for $750 per unit (you get a new face plate). Since Ref 9 SE only comes in rose copper for $2100, if you want other color, you have no choice but to purchase Ref 9 in other color and upgrade to SE.

The SE demonstrated our commitment that your investment in Ref 9 is protected and the next best thing is always an optional upgrade away :).  Ref 9 SE is not a replacement of Ref 9.

That sounds interesting. Just curious, does it use higher quality opamps?

Same opamp.  The current opamp meet the spec and after trying a few other opamps (more expensive ones), we're sticking to the 5532.  The performance of Opamp is important, but not critical (as long as it meets the spec).

Do you have a release date for the NuForce 9.01 SE?

The correct version is 9.02 with extra enhancement as described. It will be available by end of Feb.

The 5532 must be the most popular opamp on the planet. However I thought it was common knowledge that even though they have a balanced sound, they aren't the most transparant / free of grain in the highs. I am aware that some 'audiophile' opamps will let you believe there is more detail then there really is, which is distortion in itself as well. One might prefer the 5532 over these opamps. But how can using the 5532 result in a design that is 'best of the world'? I assume the entire freq range is handled by this opamp.

Well, I'm not fishing for any specific implementation, but wouldn't a better opamp combined with 'trade secrets' improve performance? Or this this piece of the puzzle insignificant compaired to the entire circuit?

We have tried a few so called audiophile opamps and find that they do not improve the sound. The overall system performance is more important as you have guessed.
