CD in Merlin Room RMAF?
« on: 19 Oct 2007, 03:40 pm »
I am looking for a CD that Bobby was playing in his room at RMAF. I cannot remember the name (obviously) but the CD is Jazz with male and female duet vocals. The CD cover was black and white with a pic of the two performers.

Any ideas?

Could have been Tuck and Patti (Tuck Andress) if there was electric guitar as well.  I've heard him play that often at the shows.  Good stuff.

Thanks for the info but Tuck and Patti CDs don't fit the memory. I will recognize the CD when I see it.

It's a long shot but worth asking.

Thanks again. I don't think that's it but I will check it out. The CD Bobby had had more white space on the cover and I don't remember a trumpet.

I'm just doing a little browsing through Amazon's "Vocal Jazz" listings.

I'm at 536 of 16,182 results in the list!

AB-  Any chance you can provide any more detail?  The disc posted by Arthurs warrants some discussion and if you will indulge me, here goes.  The music on this disc was recorded by Jim Anderson and unlike his work with close up miking of Patricia Barber, this one is more discreetly miked.  I believe the producer was going for a more sophisticated sound.  Very sucessfully, I might add.  Dianne Krall, Jane Monheit, Diana Reeves, and Cassandra Wilson are on this.  Ms. Krall doesn't sound like the same singer when you move the microphone away.  Cassandra Wilson has got to be the most closely miked singer in history.  If she were in your room and her nose was touching your nose, she wouldn't sound like she does on her records- abominably over processed to these ears and tastes.  Here, she is a better, even more compelling singer.  Thanks, Mr. A.  "Too Young To Go Steady"  has Miss Moncrief front and center, clear as a bell and unprocessed sounding, with Terrence Blanchard just off and behind her left shoulder.  All are served equally well, however there are those of you who will miss the presence of Ms. Krall's "whiskey-honey" throatyness, as I've heard it called, on her own recordings.  Nice recording,

I did the same thing btw. I called Bobby and asked him. This is what he said it might be. He also said he played no male and female duettes. But perhaps??
So Kyyuan called first Drats! Though doesnt mention it. btw Bobby is very easy to talk to, so next time, give him a call... plus idk if you thought of buying Merlins.. I love my VSM s

Bingo.

I love the Merlins but I am not in the market at the moment.
Calling Bobby would have been too easy. Starting a conversation here is always good entertainment.
Thanks for the help!

Talking to him usually leads quickly to a purchase and/or upgrade.  It happened to me twice - first the TSM-MX's then the VSM-MX's in short order.  Never regretted either one.  Tom

He just talked me into some TSM's. Fantastic speakers. They actually lived up to all his hype. Now I'm trying to decide if I should buy into the ARS-Sonum that he's also hyping. After hearing how good the new TSM's are, I sure do want to believe.......decisions, decisions...

I originally purchased mine because of all the great reviews(VSM-MXs).. and they are very good. He does have that way of turning the corner and getting you to get something. And Im not really up to all the politics of Audio, and I know there must be some kind going on, byt the Ars Sononom was just rated a A class product in stereophile.. but Im sure you could find euqal quality cheaper in some of the Audio Circle manufacturers who are too small to be reviewed, or why the big magazines decide to overlook these products.
