14 B SST - frequency response curve
« on: 23 Jul 2006, 12:10 pm »
I just noticed that the frequency response curve for the 14 B SST shows that frequency response is rolled off after about 5 KHz. The 4 B SST shows a flat frequency response.

Does this mean that the 4 B SST is a better amplifier?

If I look at the two frequency response graphs of the 14BSST and the 4BSST from their respective manuals, I see that the 14B (when producing 600 watts into 8 ohms) is down about 0.09dBr at 20KHz and the 4B (when producing 300 watts into 8 ohms) is down about 0.02dBr.

That would be considered an insignificant difference.......

Yes the difference is small, but the best amplifier is the one that makes the music you like to listen to sound the best in your system.  Many people love how the the Brystons sound, many do not.  What do you listen to: the measurements or the music?   That's not a rhetorical question.  There are many audiophiles who have very little interest in music and are in love with the technology and measurements and vice-versa, just the way there are Moslems and Christians.  I was raised in a Quad household.  Then I fell under the evil influence of the satanic Blue Circle cult.

And an indication of engineering excellence.

It's good measurements that allow you to listen to the music and not the influence of the component. Whether one wishes to hear the recording or the electronics is a personal choice. Bryston electronics will let you hear the recording. It's that simple.
