SB3 won't connect to Slimserver
« on: 9 Apr 2006, 02:33 am »
I just got my wireless SB3 back from Vinnie and now I can't get it to connect to Slimserver.  I checked the security, set a static IP address, and checked the MAC address.  What might the problem be?

Is your slimserver running on Mac, Windows or Linux? You'll need to find the IP address of the computer which is running the slimserver software.

Assuming that your computer is running Windows XP, you can find out your IP address by going to the start menu, selecting Run, then typing in cmd. This will start up a command prompt window, which looks just like an old fashioned DOS screen, but in it's own window.

In the command prompt window, type:

ipconfig

It should show something like this:

C:\>ipconfig

Windows IP Configuration

Ethernet adapter Local Area Connection:

Connection-specific DNS Suffix . : somewhere.com
IP Address. . . . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.100
Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.254.0
Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 192.168.1.1

The line that says "IP Address" will tell you your computer's IP address.

I'm having the exact same problem.  I have done all the resets (+, 1, power), set a static IP and it still can't find slimserver.  Any more suggestions folks?

Thanks!

The first rule of computer problems:

Turn everything off and on again.

Unplug the Squeezebox.
Unplug the router.
Unplug the Modem.
Wait 10 seconds.
Plug in the Modem.
Wait for all the modem lights to go on.
Plug in the router.
Plug in the Squeezebox.
Run through the set up routine.

If this doesn't work then you'll have to review your network settings.

Are either of you running firewalls?  I initially had trouble running my SB3 with Zone Alarm running at the same time, but worked around it by adding SB to the accepted zones.  A quick check is to turn off the firewall and then run through the start up process for SB.  If SB connects, then you know that your firewall was not recogizing SB as a trusted connection.  Good luck and let us know what you find works.

I got mine working.  I turned off everything and reset my router.  I still have my firewall and security on.

Thanks for all the great suggestions!  I have performed power cycling of all components, hardware resets and setting dynamic and static IP addresses, but still no joy.  The SB3 can find my wireless network, but not the slimserver (I get the 169.XXX error with a dynamic IP address).  I'll have to try hard-wiring the SB3 to see if it is a network/firewall issue.

It turned out to be a defective repeater limiting signal strength below threshold level.  Thanks all!
