Hi: I am interested in maybe a pair of Mono Extreme amps and have a few questions:
  1. What is the power rating per amp into a 4 ohm speaker(PSB Goldi)
  2.  How many amps does each Exreme draw at full power at 4 ohm load
  3. Can each amp sit on top of each speaker, without any negative effects, as I have no rack or receptacle space left.
  4. Does the Mono Extreme come with two-sets of binding posts for bi-wiring, or optional
  5. Does the Mono amp have rca and xlr inputs?
Thanks for the info: Huck :?:

a few answers
question 1-plenty of power-i have 86 db 4ohm speakers that work great-
klaus has said it before i think it might be around 250 watts

-2-i hooked my extremes up to my conditioner once and it said the draw was only a few amps-3 or so-and thats draw from 2 mono extremes

-3-amps are very big not sure i would want 60 plus pounds on top of my speakers-

-4- yes you can get 2 sets of posts as a option

-5- yes - but the balanced isnt a true balanced input-

klaus is more than happy to talk with you

getting back to #5: if the xlr input is not a true balanced input, then what is it? I just assumed it was one on my two mono extremes. If not balanced then what's the advantage? Will they sound better when using a pair of seven foot cables or maybe a 2.5 meter set?

On answer #2 you refered to a 2 amp load: was that at idol or playing music? How hard were you driving these amps at the time?

Doing some back of the envelope calcs..... If the mono's put out 250w before clipping and assuming they are class AB which should be around 50% theoretical efficiency (is that right?) that means they draw up to 500watts from the wall each.

500watts at 120V is ~4.2amps.

I think I did that right.

heavy amps on top of speakers will have negative effects, even if your speakers would be large enough to actually support the amps (I don't know many that have that size footprint.

mass loading peakers like that, and introducing the speakers resonances into the amps simply cannot be good.

Wattage depending on how much is required when driving your system.  On average,  a system only requires near 40 - 50 Watts from an amp.  Your average system with average volume playing any sort of music.
Now,  that obviously doesn't include a,  let's say big Maggie or Apogees,  or the JBL K2's,  hehehe.  Here you need power (and folks,  again,  for the nth  time,  current,  current,  current,  not Wattage),  and then you can see with high volumes the Wattage needed going up into the hundreds.
Now,  in idle,  an Extreme is about the same consumption as a 30 - 40 W.  lightbulb,  which is low.

As for the real issue,  how many amps does each amp uses:  Figure below 1 amp  per amplifier.  Again,  very little.  Of course we have a 7 second delay soft start circuitry in the amp,  which let's the amp kick in when it stabilizes under this 1 amp  redline,  or otherwise bye bye to teh house fuses,  hehehe.
