Maestros Part II - The new Maestro XL
« on: 28 Apr 2006, 06:38 pm »
It has been a little over a year since I sold the Maestros to a dear friend in the Cleveland, Ohio area. Since then, I have had several different subwoofers in our system, the closest to matching the Maestro being the Velodyne DD-18.

I just got confirmation from Mike Dzurko that twin Maestro XL's are ready to be built in the Cherry finish. The order has been placed.

Now, I need to sweat out waiting and hoping that the new XL's live up to the Maestro name.

On a very sad note, I had sold the original units to the above mentioned friend. He is the type of man to whom I have a hard time saying "no". The reason for this is because of what kind of man he is.

He and his wife have the most adorable 6 year old little girl. This young lady was born with a severe spinal disorder. When ever he and his wife would visit, they would bring this special little girl along, and his devotion to her was remarkable. Her parents  did not go out without her, EVER, as there was no baby sitter type of service available to take care of her. Home Theater was their social outlet. So, when he asked me for the Maestros, there was no way of even thinking of saying "no".

He would often send notes about that latest movie they watched together, or music listened to. Their system was literally a way for her to communicate with Mom and Dad, as she could not speak. When she liked the music, or the movie, she just beamed with happiness.

I just received word that, after fighting a 6 year battle, the little girl has passed. While she will be missed more than words can say, she is also finally at peace. Events like this always make one pause, and think about how trivial our hobbies are. At the same time, it is gratifying to know that this hobby was such a source of happiness for this little girl.

Micah, you will be missed. That being said, everyone who knew you knew what a big heart you had, and also knows you are in heaven, finally running and talking up a storm. God Bless you. I know Mom and Dad feel blessed to have had you for those wonderful 6 years.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to you friend and his wife. Events like this really does makes one think of how special and precious life is.

At least now I really do know where thunder comes from. She has a couple of ACI "Maestros" up there with her in her system.

I will be getting my 2nd "Maestro" in a couple of months and I can't wait.  :D I wasn't going to get another one until next fall/winter, but being that ACI is phasing out the old cabinets, I have it arranged with Mike to be the last one to receive an old cabinet style to match my "Panoramas". So all you "Maestro" want to be owners, the sooner you buy the ones that ACI have on the closeout "sale of the century" list, the sooner I have to buy mine. I will just go without some gas and food for my family for a while! :(  (I haven't told them yet!)
I will post all my thoughts of stereo "Maestros" and pictures when this all comes together. :D

I dropped in here to ask a question, but once I read about this little lady and her loving family it just isn't important right now. God Bless.

Rigger ... After the new Maestro XL's get here, a new thread will be started. It was such odd timing, gettng the news about Micah within a few minutes of getting the news from Mike that the Maestros were going to be built next week, and knowing how much she loved this hobby with her Dad, I just felt compelled to tell you guys about her.

Thanks to you and budydog for your thoughts.  :)

Craig:

I read your post late last night. You had told me about Micah and her folks before. I was numb when I read that she had passed away. The loss of a child has to be one of the most difficult things for anyone to experience. I thought about her and her parents off and on since reading the news. I believe you're right, she is free now, and happy. I pray that her parents can find strength and comfort in knowing that. Please give them my best . . .

Craig,
Give our best to your friends and tell them there are lots of folks here thinking about them.  I lost a nephew (age eight) many years ago and remember to this day what it was like and what it put my sister and her family through.  Although it was sudden and not from a long-term illness it is still the same tragic loss and feeling of emptiness.

Your passion for music (subs anyway....:D ) and your reputation on these forums is first-rate.  You are a good friend to spread the news of Micah's 6 yrs of joy.  Micah is smiling down, I'm sure.
