Speaker positioning with the new Waveguide?

Would anyone care to share their experiences with the new Waveguides and any effects on speaker positioning?

OTL,

I will be receiving a pair of VMPS Rm40s with Waveguides tomorrow (Monday, March 27) and I will let you know how they sound and what effects if any they have on speaker position.

From my conversations with Brian I believe that the Waveguides will make positioning easier for those of us will non-ideal listening rooms.
By the way where in New England are you located.  I'm located in Boston MA.  PM me if you want.

Cheers,

John

There are very few CDWG's in the field.  Only one pair of RM30s and a handful of RM40s.

The first real production WG's arrive in about 2 weeks.

I think Woodsyi posted some of his impressions a few weeks ago.

As far as positioning, not much has changed except the "requirement" to converge the speakers exactly 1-2 feet in front of you has been relaxed a bit since the improved directivity allows a more relaxed convergence if desired.

That said, the former convergence angle may still offer the best overall result, since it also has a tendency to reduce sidewall reflections to a greater degree.

Another tip would be to heavily treat the front wall between the speakers, since convergence can produce center front wall reflection or reflection off the equipment if placed between the speakers.

If you do have your gear between the speakers, it might be best to move the speakers well ahead of the equipment if possible.

Under those circumstances, it would be an exercise of "adjusting" distance in front of the equipment, with convergence angle to satisfy the fewest gremlins.

Do keep in mind however that improving directivity over a large frequency spectrum like the CDWG does, will give you a less obtrusive group of reflections, when compared to speakers without improved directivity.
