Hah!!!!  Gotta hate it when your song gets put on this list. . .

Article from today's Herald Sun. . . .

Artist gets a bad rap

13may03

EMINEM'S Lose Yourself is the song most likely to cause a car crash, according to a survey.

It is one of a host of rap records found to induce speeding and dangerous driving.
Beethoven's Symphony No. 5 is a surprise entry in the top 10 bad driving songs, compiled by motoring expert Adam Verby.

Mr Verby tested 100 motorists while they played different types of music in their cars.

He found classical music could also be dangerous because it induced a dream-like state, which affects drivers' concentration.

People who listened to pop and rock demonstrated the highest concentration.

So, what songs make you want to drive fast?  ?  ?  For me, I'd say Megadeth's "502" and "Hangar 18".  I have been known to do 120, passing cars on the shoulder in my wife's WRX while listening to "Whiplash" by JFK.  Uhh, don't tell my wife.  ;-)

Can't forget Golden Earring - Radar Love

The old UFO albums caused much bad driving back in the early 80's. :) Others that have caused excessive speed would include AC/DC, Motorhead, Black Sabbath, Megadeth, Ramones, Alice Cooper, Joe Satriani. One I remember distinctly was Montrose - Bad Motor Scooter.

Probably lots of others but those came to mind. Sadly much of my 20's (the eighty's) is a pretty foggy memory. These days the best sound for driving fast is the turbo at high boost. Great music there. :)

Good topic.

An officer of the NC Highway Patrol interrupted me a few months ago while I was listening to Gold Chains, "Rock The Parti." I was also driving 88 in a 55 zone. This was early one morning on I-85 in Cabarrus county on the way to Charlotte. A few weeks before that I was pulled over close to home by a Durham County Sheriff after I'd run the car up to red line in the first two gears. This time I was listening to Ween, "Voodoo Lady" and got off with a verbal warning. Both times I was driving my wife's WRX (funny coincidence, Hantra).

17 years ago I parked my first car(a 1969 Camaro convertible) about 30 yards into a corn field after ripping the right front wheel off on a guard rail. That time I was listening to Van Halen, "Panama."

I use to drive like that but I have mellowed a teeny bit since.  I use to drive from San Luis Obispo, CA to Vancouver, WA quite a few times back and forth during the summers and typically I would lock the cruise at 110, maybe only 95 through Oregon.

Never a ticket but I once had a pretty scary close call on the way to Mammoth Mtn.  Was passing a line of 5 semi's behind my buddy in his Escort GT, myself in a fairly new at the time MR2.  Buddy made it around, I was one shy when an oncoming car made it too close and I ended up passing him on the far left shoulder at 95mph.   Kinda scary at the time.

Great topic!

Radar Love was the cause of two of my speeding tickets.  (first was Golden Earring, and second was White Lion's version)  I no longer listen to that song while driving.

Any old school Van Halen is bad news on the road for me....I have to force myself to slow down.

How's this for ironic?  I fell asleep at the wheel on the Jersey Turnpike while listening to Dream Theater's "Awake" CD.  (my own fault for driving home after an all-night party with no sleep, and quite frankly I'm surprised I didn't kill myself)

But my vote goes to Joe Satriani's "One Big Rush".

Go ahead, try listening to that song on the open highway.  8)

Back in the dark ages when I was in high school a buddy rigged a speaker up by his radiator which we used to crank every time DOA came on the air.  We'd turn it up full blast when the ambulance siren came on at the end.

The local constabulary was not amused and persuaded us to stop this practice.

Yep, they still exist and even go on tour.  Visit http://www.head-east.com/ for a schedule, all mid-west for the near future.  I see that they're playing Bernie Fest somewhere in Wisconsin this summer.  We ought to send all of our frozen Wisconite audiophile pals in the circle to this concert!  (only Wisconsin could have something called Bernie Fest ;) ).

Never Been Any Reason is probably the all time greatest song to play air guitar to.  And playing air guitar while driving can be very dangerous.
