SB2 music library: what have I done wrong?
« on: 28 Feb 2006, 08:21 pm »
I know this question has been asked before, and answered.  So please forgive me for asking it again...but I think I'm doing the right thing and it's not working...

I have flac files stored on two different hard discs.  Neither disc can hold all the files.  The slimserver software looks for the music library in the music folder in the F drive.  In that folder, I have included a shortcut to a folder on the C drive, and in that C drive folder I have collected the remaining flac files.

But when I rescan for new or modified music files in slimserver, the library only identifies the music in the appropriate folder on the F drive.  It's as though it cannot see the shortcut to the C drive folder, or else ignores it.

What have I done wrong?  Do I need to do anything special to the shortcut?  If it makes any difference, I'm using Windows XP Professional.

Don't worry about it.  My new external hard disk just arrived, and should solve all my problems!   :D

I'm glad you got a new Hard drive because I have no idea why what you were doing wrong.  Everything you wrote sounded right to me.

I'm wondering a couple of things.

The first is not potentially desirable as it would require a COMPLETE rescan - not just for new and modded.

The second is that I would guess a better approach would be to fill the drive that's pointed to first and then do my adding to the base directory.  In your case, it might be easier to point to the external drive first and create a subfolder for the other drive.  That way, you'd never rescan the pointed to drive.
