Seeking acoustic treatment recommendations

I just picked up 6 pieces of the 2" 8lb. rock wool and 2 pieces of the 703 OC 2" 3lb FRK (althought the reciept say 1.5"ASJ, it measures 2").  I am putting the rock wool stacked 2 high in the corners directly behind the speakers, 1 piece on the wall behind the equip/speakers, and 1 piece behind my head on the far wall from the speakers (I sit about 3' from this wall).  The 2 703s are located at the first reflection points.  Right now I simply have everything sitting in its location, not mounted, framed, or covered.  The improvement is immediate, I thing the piece on the rear wall behind my head may be making the biggest impact. My questions are:

1) Does this sound like a reasonable setup?  (i don't want to play with it too much since it is not covered yet)

2) Should I remove the foil from the 703?  Right now the foil is facing the wall since I am trying to asorb high frequencies and not reflect them.

BTW, this is my 2 channel setup, the room is 12.5'X10.5' set up with the equipment/speakers on a 10.5' wall with the primary listening position at the oppsite end of the room.  Running a RWA modded SB3, Onix SP3, and HornShoppe Horns, no sub.

Thanks,
Ed

Yes.  Remove the foil if you're planning to have an airgap behind the refleciton panels.  If you're going to directly mount it to the wall, just turn it around so the foil is against the wall.  You need the soft side exposed to the waves or the highs just bounce off.

Thanks Bpape, that is what I thought but I wanted to ask to be certain.

Sounds like a good start.  What is between your speakers (tv, equip rack, etc)?

" The improvement is immediate"  That's great.  You may want another behind your head.  I would also take some measurements to see what's happening.

I treated a large part of my rear wall by mounting 3 panels across the wall behind me and then bass traps from floor to ceiling.  That in combination with treating first reflection points (floor to ceiling) put my room into a new league of realism and dimension.  I have a similar sized room at about 11x13.

I can hear the 'voice' of my system now which is cool but has caused me to think of new gear to buy.... ;)

If you can get your speakers to within 1/8" of each other to you, the benefits will amaze you.

Thanks to all that have replied.
I picked up some burlap tonight.  I hope to cover and hang them properly tomorrow.  I will have the 4 units not mounted in a corner placed about 2" off the wall (is there a concesus on optimum space behind these panels?).  I have decided not to frame these in but wrap them completely in burlap and hotglue 4-6 spacers on the backs of each sheet.  I will hang these with hooks similar to the way a picture is hung.  For the corners I am debating whether to use hooks and wire or possibly use a spring loaded rod (similar to some shower curtain rods) in behind them first connecting them to the rod using a heavy guage wire through the back of the panel and looping around the rod.

After it is installed I wil take some measurements to see where I am at.  As for additional treatments behind me i am limited in space by a desk, closet door and entry door.  I do plan on dialing in the speaker toe in again once I have completed the install.

I am sitting here now grinning at the improvement I have gained already, it is the best $100. I have spent on my system.

Thanks to all of you who post here in the Acoustics circle, your participation and sharing of experience is what makes it possible for those with no experience in this area sucessfully complete DIY Acoustic treatments of our spaces.

General concensus is that the max and optimal distance behind a panel like that is equal to the thickness of the panel.  ie, if you're hanging 2" material, anything up to 2" is workable and 2" is best.
