What resistance?
« on: 17 Feb 2006, 06:57 am »
Hi all,
I plan to start running my GK1M this weekend but am still awaiting the pot. I assume I can put a resister accross the wiper pins to let it run so I can be sure all is well. Can someone tell me if this is possible, and if so, what a suitable resistance would be for listening levels. I hope to get an Idea of how she sounds and to let her run in. Any help would be much appreciated, thanks..

Hi Martin,

These should aid with the choice of value against the amount of level you will require.

I hope these help.

Hi Martin,

Sure!!  Run a 20K and a 4K7 resistor in series from the SS section output to ground.  Then run a wire from the junction of these two resistors to the tube input at C19/19'.

This will give you suitable attenuation to try out your new baby.

The pot is speeding towards you in Newman as we speak, posted off days back.

Cheers,

Hugh

Hi again..
Thanks Hugh... You got me in trouble... :nono:
11pm, plug it all in with HUGHS recommended resistors and it's "Hoochie Gucci Fiorucci Mamma" playing at about 11 :o

Now thats she's finished yelling at me, is just having the GK1 powered up going to run in the resistors?

There is a bit of noise but I'm far from surprised considering the mess the wires are in...

I will give it another listen tommorrow and see if wriggling the wires around takes away some of the noise..

I love those two big LED's on the top... :P

Martin,

I've given you 22K/4K7 since this reduces signal to 4.7/(22 + 4.7) = 18% of the input signal.  If this is 2Vpp, it comes back to 0.35Vpp, which should be fine for the AKSA, which needs around 2Vpp for full power.

If this is too loud still, merely drop the 4.7K resistor down to 1K8 or 2K2.  That should do it!  I'm sorry if my original suggestion caused friction in the home!

Cheers,

Hugh

  I'm wondering if perhaps I had the HT bypass in the wrong position????

It was late.... I had been working all day in the humidity.... I had world events on my mind... I've got plenty more excuses where those came from..

I will have a coffee, make the kids some pancakes and slowly run through the start up procedure again, methinks....

Of course, everyone knew I meant capacitors....

I know my HT bypass works, tested last night at 11pm. My mute works (not at 11pm though) :D  I have noise in my left channel so I will go through it as both channels are wired in much the same mess and the right is surprisingly clear.

This is fun

Hugh, I believe the friction is only beginning, I feel the need for a plus upgrade after a nice CD player. We all know great sound starts at the source...

Yes, Martin,

Every chance you had the HT bypass selected.  That would do it.......
