Acrolink Power Cords
« on: 10 Feb 2006, 09:50 pm »
Give me some time with these fellas, but right now all I can say is "Oh My God!"  Really, this isn't overstatement.  I've changed wires over the years with subtle changes, no changes, deterimental changes--but never with significant changes for the better.  Just an example: changing my amp from Clayton S40 to Herron 150 monoblocks represented far less change than changing power cords from Cardas Golden Reference to Acrolink.  Now if you know any thing about Clayton vs. herron, well, they're diametrically opposed approaches.  More later, give me a month to write a full review.  Right now: best 900 bucks I ever threw at my system. Peace.

These look like they're made by Acrotec, a Japanese company thats been around for a long time. Any idea if they are?

Freejazz

Yes, they are the same Acrolinks from Japan- and some more

They are imported from Japan by Joe Cohen at Lotus Group ... along with the Oyaide products.

LonewolfNY42 has the links - Alan Kafton, at Audio Excellence AZ, is unique in that he sends them to Cryogenics International for double cryo treatment and then burns them in on his Audiodharma unit for 4.5 days before shipping them out.

I picked up one of the cords w/ the Oyaide Palladium over Gold (046) connectors from a friend and found it to be a very nice cord that does little harm and allows the sound of the flavor of the Oyaide connectors to come through.

I was also fortunate and found it much fun contrasting the sounds of the cords from various manufacturers who are now using the Oyaide and Acrolink connectors

- The Acrolink cords under discussion, come outfitted in each of the Oyaide connector (male plug and IEC) flavors - Direct Gold, Palladium over Gold and Rhodium over Silver - each has a distinct and very consistant sound signature.  Acrolink apparently has another higher-priced cord that includes the Acrolink Carbon fibre Palladium over Gold, but Alan is not cyro-treating it at this time.

 - Purist Audio Design is now using the Oyaide Gold p/c 079 connectors on their Aqueous Anniversary power cord.

- Locus Design is offering eachof the Oyaide flavors as options, but also offer the Acrolink Carbon Fibre Palladium over Gold, on their Nuculeus Reference cord.

- I have been using Michael Wolff's Silver Carbon Source (meant for source components and preamps) and Gain (meant for amps and power conditioners) cords that exclusively use the Acrolink Carbon Fibre  plugs.  The Gain cord has just been replaced by a very much-improved Viola power cord that also uses the Acrolink Carbon Fibre plug.

It is amazing how "far" we have come in the past couple years with the various high-quality connectors - wattagate, Furutech, Oyaide, Acrolink++
