Hiya Guys,

I'm not sure if anybody is interested in going but Hamfest (Winterfest) is going to be held at the Gateway Center in Collinsville on Saturday Jan 28th.

http://www.arrl.org/hamfests.html?dosel=1&subtype=section&selsect=IL

Not sure if I'll be able to make it but I'm going to try. I'd like to pick up some tubes, microphone transformers, and maybe a scope if I can get a deal on one.

Thanks for the reminder, Scott.
Since its less than a mile from me, I 'spose I ought to go and see if there is anything worth having for me.
IF I can get off work.  That can be a big *if*, given the guy I work for...
and IF I get that day, anyone coming over this way is welcome to stop by.
I guess there ARE some advantages to living here in 'Bugtussel'.

Are these events good for picking up tubes?  I wouldn't mind milling around for some deals.

A bunch of the Hammie's still use vacuum tubes in all their equipment. There should be quite a few miniature tubes and driver tubes there. I doubt we will see any single ended stuff but there should be plenty of 12 and 6 series tubes along with output tubes (el84, el34, 6l6) and the like. Who knows, you might even run across some beam tubes like 211's, 845's, or the 1000+ volt 833.

There should be plenty of tube testers and a miriad of other test equipment (VOM, sig gen, cap testers, scopes) there for sale too.

Man, I haven't to one of those in while. When i used to go some 6 or 7 years ago, you could actually find some decent tubes ( there I go living in the past again). One of my best deals $10.00 for one GE 211 DHT and a Radiatron (RCA) 845, those were the days. There were a couple of Ham guys I'd always look for that had a bunch of tubes for sell.
On my last venture to a Fest, these guys didn't have much ( all sold tubes on Ebay ) and the rest of the folks were selling computer video cards.
I'm gonna give it a visit if I can anyway, just to see if anything has changed. You still might be able to find something useful out of someones junk.
So I might see you guys there!
    Have fun!

Alas, I could not make it either.  Although intensely curious, giving up a day's pay would have made any tube finds expensive.
Still curious, if anyone made it.
