Electra Print PVA preamp...any thoughts?
« on: 28 Jan 2006, 04:01 am »
Hello all,

Anyone have any first-hand experience with the PVA preamp from Electra Print Audio? I've been alternating between two different passive line stages in my two-channel rig (Denon DVD-2900 into a Handmade Audio Deluxe 2A3 amp), but haven't found the right combo yet.

Is the PVA similar in design to the Bent Audio and/or the Django, or are those tranformer-controlled preamps something else entirely?

Thanks for your help!

Hi Acresm22,

They are all kissin' cousins really, the Bent, Django and a few others like Music First use the B & S transformers, where others like Electra Print and Sonic Euphoria use slightly different autoformers.  They all seem to get great press, but I've only heard the Bent and Django in my system  8)  I suspect the EP would be a great match for your 2A3 if the Denon has the drive for it!!!

Thanks Gordy! The Denon has a 2v output and an output impedance of 470 ohms...I'm trying to find out if that's workable with the EP.

Long ago I auditioned the Bent in my system, now I have a pair of Dave Slagle's AVCs to try (more like the Electra Print).  It might be a little bit before I have it set up and ready to go but I'll let you know what I think.

Thanks Josh...keep me posted!
I must say, compared with some of the other tranny pres out there, the EP sure is priced right.

by the way, the dave slagle AVCs are really cheap if you can solder.  www.intactaudio.com
$200 for the pair and a switch.  I think dave offers a TVC too but it is much more expensive and dave prefers the sound of the AVC.

I bought a remote control scheme for the AVCs off dantimax.dk, so for an extra $133 shipped I got remote volume control with the AVCs.
