Larger hookup question
« on: 28 Jan 2006, 05:59 pm »
I'm thinking of replacing my Paradigm Servo 15 with a powered larger. For stereo, I plan to use the second set of preamp outs on my Modwright pre. Do I need to connect both the left and right outputs of the pre to the left and right inputs on the plate amp?

I ask this because the subwoofer hookup diagrams on ACI's website show only the right RCA jack being used with stereo hookup.

It would be nice not to have to run two 25ft lengths of cable to hook the sub up.

The short answer is "yes" the L&R inputs of the plate amp need to be connected to acheive full power from the plate amp.

The long answer is:

1) For Full Power using the L&R inputs you need to supply input to both

2) That input can come from a mono source and "split" at the inputs by a Y-connector

3) If you don't wish to use the plate amps "controls" you can run a single input into the LFE input.

Keep in mind that you will have a "stereo" pair coming out of the preamp, and it will need to be "combined" at some point for mono.

I would assume, that you could simply use a y-connector at the pre, and then another at the plate amp, to produce the desired result.
