CDWG: 3' listening distance?

This was B's response about the ideal RM30-CDWG listening distance:

You can sit as close as directly between the speakers, it's a 180 pattern.

B

After two auditions, both times A-B-ing w/ vs. without CDWG on two different systems & rooms, I am convinced the above statement is accurate.  I think this advantage is huge & cannot be overstated.

Can you imagine listening only 3' in front of your speakers & giving up nothing (except for possibly some low bass power)?  Can you imagine 3' providing all the integration, smoothness, impact, tactile realism, staging, & imaging that 15' prvides?  But in a speaker with the 30s dynamic envelope.  Wow!  This is unheard of except for the tinyest little minimonitor two-ways & coaxials, which for other reasons are not generally preferred by VMPS ribbon owners.

This may be just totally over the top on the 40s & RMX.

Till Brian has CDWG's available for 626R's, we must imagine the positive effects.  It should be nice.  On the other hand, if the RM30-CDWG is capable of the 626R's integration & smoothness, at the same near-field distance, that could eliminate the last & only area where the 626R may have had any advantage.

Brian:

I'm just curious:  what does CDWG technology mean for car speakers?

When will there be a VMPS "inwall" for my Porsche?

thanks.

When driving a Porsche, why would you care about speakers?  Just turn the damn audio system off, and listen to the engine.  No finer music has ever been made.

If it's a 180 degree pattern, what does that do for first reflection point issues?  I assume I can still use the mirror trick to place my traps at the first reflection point.  If it really is a 180 degree pattern, I'm going to have to experiment with toe in and my current sitting position.

I don't see why the CD effect wouldn't be applicable to car speakers, but it probably depends on where the speakers are.  For instance, in my Snaab, I have rear speakers that are behind the rear seats and point upward.  I'm not sure that CD would help much, especially as these speakers are bass only.

It's safe to say that I'm waiting very, very impatiently for the chance to try this out on an RM/x. The only complaint I have about my room is the smallish sweet spot. This is going to fix that.

Thanks! It was very peaceful. I had time for a long talk with the Sonicrock manufacturer. Unfortunately we've decided not to advertise the product here - too many doubting thomases.

Seriously, though, I'm a reformed character. As reformed as I ever get, anyway...
