Does anyone know of a really good tube headphone amp kit?

I have heard good things about the SEX kit from Bottlehead, but I haven't tried it myself.

Personally, I think it would be interesting if Hagerman Tech put one out.

I have the Jasmine T200 and I'm very satisfied.  It serves as an integrated amp driving small speakers in my gym and as a headphone amp.  The neat feature about it is the USB connectivity to a computer with it's own Burr-Brown DAC built in.  I just connect my portable to it and the quality coming out in my headphones is rather astonishing.  For the price of this little amp I think it is the best audio product I ever bought.

Before buying this one I had only tested the Antique Sound Lab tube headphone amp.  I would say quality of sound coming out of the Jasmine is at least as good as the ASL but the added features tipped the scale to the Jasmine's side.

Hope this helps.

Hi there,

We are coming out with an OTL Tube Headphone amp soon, I am going to try to bundle it with an HD600 or HD650 as a complete kit. :-)

Please keep an eye on my website for announcements.

slurve, sica, I'm from Canada and I bought it in a store close to Montreal.  It is called fixaudio, below is their internet site but it's only in French!!!  The MSRP is $700 canadian so in the US it should be around $500.  I paid less then MSRP by the way.

http://www.fixaudio.net/features/Products/Jasmine/t200.html

I also saw an add on audiogon which lists a shop in Hawaii as the US distributor for Jasmine, if you are from the US you might want to call them:

Hope this helps.

There is also low-voltage hybrid headphone amp from Pete Millett, http://www.pmillett.com/hybrid_head.htm.  There is also an updated version at http://www.diyforums.org/millett.html.

Take a look at it.  You can also purchase the orginal verison of Pete's board from DIY Cable.

I picked up one of the hybrid boards during the Head-fi group-buy, but I haven't had a chance to build it yet.  It should be a fun project.

Please keep us posted on your build.  Are you going to install any upgrade parts and what are you doing for a power supply a wall wart or an upgrade power supply?

I started looking at DACT... they have moduals, but they are pre built. I might go with the pre and the power supply. But I would much rather build from a pcb and add my choice of parts. How long till the DIYZone kit is available?

Hey, folks,

Just thought I'd second the suggestion to build a PMillett Hybrid.  I built one last year and really enjoy it with my Grado cans.  I use a wall-wart PS and never got around to tweaking it more than a couple of Black Gate caps.  A couple of NOS Tung-Sol 12AE6A's round it out.  Not a real difficult project either!

Good Luck
