I'm looking for a simple Bryston preamp to drive my ICE amps wich have an 8k ohm input impedence. Ther are a few .5b's for sale but I can't find any specs on them. I need at least 4v or more output from a preamp. I can't seem to find any specs on the .5b or any other older bryston preamp. Do they all use the legendary Bryston discrete componet opamps? If you guys have any info or a Bryaton preamp for sale, I'd appreciate it - Thanks

HI Joules,

The BP6 is the replacement for the .5B.

http://www.bryston.ca/bp6_m.html

The .5B has a MM Phono input and 3 high-level inputs.  A model called the BP5 was the same except it added Balanced XLR stereo outputs

All the .5B preamps have the fully discrete output stages.

The output impedance is 80 ohms and the gain with single ended out is 15 volts - the balanced out 30 volts.

Can you comment on where the BP16 is supposed to sit vis-a-vis the BP26 and BP6? Looking at your web site, I would say that it looks like the best of the lot, at least with respect to features.

HI PorkPieHat,

Yes the BP16 offers more features than the BP26 but it does not have Balanced in or Balanced out. It also has a built in power supply.

I see the BP26 as a straight in straight out approach and the BP16 as a more feature oriented product. With the 16 you can have both the DAC and the MM Phono on board together and you have full function remote control.
