How old is it?  If it is still under warranty, take it back to an apple store and they will replace the i-pod.

If it is out of warranty, you can send it back to apple for a battery replacement.  Info can be found on the apple website.

As far a DIY solution, I have no idea.

I have not done it myself, but I had investigated DIY.

There are a number of vendors, just Google "ipod mini battery replacement"

Here's one: http://www.ipodbatterydepot.com/shopping/productdetails.asp?category1=&recordid=2&n=specific&at=1.5-ipodmini-6.3&gclid=CMKDgKTz1IECFQlnDgodIhTz2g#

Check out the Installation Instructions link.

It's pretty straight forward, the problem is the white plastic inserts on the top and bottom are glued in, and must be pryed out to access the screws on top and the clip on the bottom.

The trick is to get the inserts out without marking up the inserts or the aluminum body!
