Practical questions re. DAC + battery
« on: 2 Nov 2005, 05:18 am »
1. Does the Monica dac work with any digital source or just a CD player? I would like to use it with the digital output from a DVD player.

2. Is the battery user replaceable and readily available?

Thanks

Hi Hosster,

Welcome to AudioCircle!

The RWA Monica 2 dac takes an SPDIF digital input signal (coaxial, not optical).  Most DVD players have a coaxial digital output, which will work fine.

The battery is a 12V SLA, and is easy to find online.  It is best to send the unit back to us for battery replacement when the time comes, but after your 1-year warranty, I suppose you can open the unit and replace the battery yourself.

Regards,

miklorsmith

Thanks, what I was wondering about is if Monica is compatible 24-bit/48kHz data from a DVD player as well as the 16-bit/44.1 kHz data from a CD player? I use my 2 channel rig for home theatre so this matters to me. Thanks for your help. My current DAC is away for repairs and I don't know what it's ultimate fate will be. If it is pronunced dead I would love to try the Monica

I second the nomination. I have listened to it extensively, and musically it is dense, delicate, light, resolving, easily the most musical digital source I have heard and plays rings around my Theta Miles, which is getting long in the tooth. With the B200 DarkStars/PX-25 SET it is a match made in heaven.. It actually sounds quite abit like a tubed source of some kind.

Get into Monica.
