EFE T-20 speaker review
« on: 4 Oct 2005, 10:10 pm »
I have been a fan of Ed Frias  and his speakers for a while now.  I think he is one of the best kept secrets in audio.   I have been incredibly impressed with his customer support.  Both on the phone and in email.  He is always quick to answer questions.  Presale as well as Post sale.

I originally owned a pair of his DIY speakers that he designed for www.audioreview.com  I enjoyed those speakers so much because they were such a bang for the buck.  I built them for around $300 for the pair.  They stood up against some great competition over the time I have had them.  They currently are being used as my surround speakers.  My enjoyment of these is the major rason I bit the bullet and bought a pair of his T-20 speakers.

Here is my review of the T-20's.

Equipment used:

ART DAC with bolder cables mensa mod
Theta digital universal player used as a transport
Outlaw Audio ICBM bass managment used to cross over the speakers
Custom built Peerless 12 inch sub in a passive radiator design.

Listening impressions:
I have owned these for a few months now and every time I listen to them I am blown away by how natural they sound.  I find myself listening to them as I move around the house and constantly think to myself.  Wow! that band is playing in my living room.  I get the same feeling when I sit in front of them speakers.  The speakers absolutely disappear in front of me.    The soundstage is wide and deep.  The instrument placement is exactly where it should be.

I have had several audiophile buddies come over and listen to them.   They all come away with the same impressions.  They are simply blown away.  One of my friends that is an audio reseller constantly asks me to bring these speakers over to use as a reference against other speakers he sells.  He is now set on buying a pair of these speakers. :)

I have played a variety of music on these speakers.  Vocals have a since of air to them.  Piano's sound like piano's.  Sax's sound exactly like sax's!  I can't tell you how neutral these speakers really are.

In short if you are in the market for some monster speakers.  And I really mean monster killers these are it.  You could easily spend $4000 or more and not find speakers of this quality.   Give them a try.  I promise you will not be disappointed.

What is Ed's e-mail address or phone? I've tried efespkrs@aol.com
and my e-mail bounced back.

No he doesn't have a website.  He is a one man operation.  Everything he does is by word of mouth.  Do a search on him on the internet and you will find tons of great reviews about him.   I had one of my speakers cracked by fed ex in delivery.  He resolved the whole issue for me quickly and effortlessly on my part and got me a new one sent.
I can't say enough about his honesty and helpfulness.

He mentioned to me in the past he has had offers to buy his design but he doesnt want people selling his speakers for out rages prices.

He gave his original book shelf design away from FREE!  Just to show you can have really good audio with out spending a fortune.

If you have any questions.  honestly just email him :)
