Passive pre and cables
« on: 26 Oct 2005, 06:21 pm »
I own a Norh SE9, which is a 9 watt single ended pentode amp with an Alps pot so that you can use with a CD, DVD, etc..  I recently was experimenting with a couple of the active preamps I own driving the Norh as an amp, with the pot rolled all the way to right (hopefully taking it out of the picture).  My first experiment was with my PAS 3X  (for sale, making sure that there were no problems) and I found that there was a small improvement in the way the Norh sounded.  Then I tried my AVA 4i (upgraded toroid) and there was a marked difference in bass detail and loudness.

I would like to keep using the Norh as a "stand alone".  Can anyone give me a clue if there are any improvements to be had by changing cable between DVD and the Norh?  Thanks.
