class d (??) vs class t (Charlize??)

I've just started tossing around the idea of building a small battery powered digital amp. I haven't soldered in about 12 years, so take my newb questions with a grain of salt...

I'm using a Clari-T now, and was thinking of trying to build a Charlize (both class t?). Doing some reading, it seems that there are a good number of people in the class d camp. What is the difference between class d and class t? What are some examples of class d amps, are there any easy kits, and does anyone have any experience with them?

I'll believe class T is just marketing. It is also a sort of class D => switched amp.

I think term class-T came about because these little amps use Tripath chips.

AFAIK, class-T and class-D refer to the same technology.

Hey Max,

Yeo's Charlize comes assembled and the extent of your soldering will be connecting the powersupply, speaker outputs, and signal inputs. 6 connections in total. The ps and speaker output holes appear large enough that you might be able to use small brass bolts and nuts, if you're willing to commit such audiophile transgressions

.... You might even ask Yeo to solder some wires to the board, for a negotiated fee, so that you wouldn't have to muck with the board itself.

The class T refers to Tripah's specific implementation of a switching amp (generically class D) which is more sophisticated than the simplest fixed frequency switching amps.

As Occam reported, the Charlize comes assembled. Through a slight miscalculation

, Occam reported six connections while there are actually ten. It's a five minute soldering job.
I'm using a Charlize as my main amp. It's a much more capable amp than my modded T-Amp and I prefer it to the Autocostruire which I built and modded. It's got way more bass than the others without losing detail or clarity.
The Clari-T has a slightly brighter sound (the Charlize has a slightly warmer, more "tubelike" sound), probably because it uses the 2024 chip while the Charlize and Autocostruire use the 2020 chip. The Charlize definitely has more "oomph" than the 2024 amps.

Larry, I saw that on the diy forum which I joined a few days ago. I enjoyed reading your posts about your experiences with the Charlize...along with some others they were a strong reason I'm going to get one.
