Is eichmann plus any good ?
« on: 31 May 2006, 07:30 pm »
Hi,
I see several websites have interconnect with Eichmann plug. Does the plug is any good than Cardas plug?

Eichmann plugg looks fragile by the way....

This of course is my opinion but I think these are way overpriced. There are some good copies and as you said the Cardas are also very good. The Eichmans just cost too much money for a plug.

After  trialing  a  number  of interconnects -  (Kimber  sort of  price  range) my favourite  by far  was Slinky-Links.  These are a silver cable,  air dielectric design using  Eichmann Bullet  Plugs. (mine  are the  copper  plugs -  haven't  tried the  more expensive  silver  plugs)  I reckon these  cables  are  great  value for money.
I don't  know how much to  attribute to the  plugs,  but i  suspect  quite  a bit.  i really  like  'em.
The  plugs  themselves  are not  fragile at  all-  but the connection to the  wire needs  to  be  handled 'carefully"   i.e. don't  pull them out  by the  cable -  always  grip the plug.
Local  reviewers  found  them  favourable  compared to Straightwire  Maestros, and considerably  cheaper.

I use Eichmann bullets on one of my DIY interconnects and they sound great.  They are tricky to solder.  Its very easy to melt the plastic housing when heating the metal connectors.  Also while plugging in the first time don't force them.  Its easy to bend the neutral post and short out the plug without you even knowing it if the fit is too tight.  If you warm the plug with a hair dryer it softens and can be installed on a tight connection.

They do seem to be very fragil in that I don't think they can take alot of plugging and unplugging without pulling the wires off the metal  connections inside the plug.

They do sound great and I would use them again being more aware of the above factors.

After playing with quite a few different RCA plugs, binding posts and spade terminals I can say with complete certainty that high mass = poor(er) sound.

Products on the market like the those big honkin binding posts are nothing more than audio jewelry designed to play to the audiophiles emotion that bigger = better.

Just as Keith states on his website, most are made from brass which generally sounds harsh and nasty. The ones that are manufacturered from copper do sound better but  think about this. One of those use huge copper binding posts is the equivilant to 10 to 20 feet of wire (think mass here).

The same holds true for the RCA plugs. Why would you want to add all that mass (especially) to a small signal?

Honest to goodness, less = best when it comes to connectors. Don't be afraid of the old tinned copper RCA's and and spade connectors (fork terminals).

Thanks....

Right now i have Elementcable ic with cardas plug. It is good until i try Discovery Signature IC in my system. Discovery is much more open, smooth...

Then, Eichmann comes to my mind when i start looking for a comparable IC to Discovery.  Since I am not good a soldering, i want to get IC that sounds good and I think Eichmann may work for me.

Another IC is Totem Acoustic Sinew from Totem, but i don't see any review about this IC .  Several other brands are in my mind:

  Signalcable
Straightwire  ( i have straightwire Rhapsody speaker cable)
  Discovery

  thanks.
