Hello all,

i have recently made a case for my aksa, but i can't seem to find any fancy bolts to make it a little more presentable. I was hoping someone who has a bit more experience building amplifiers might know where i could find some. Im after some small bolts maybe anodised, chrome or stainless something a little more pleasing to the eye than your average bolts!!
I want my aksa to look the goods.
any help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers, George

Have a look at an automotive parts supplier as they have all types for the petrol heads

McMaster-Carr  http://www.mcmaster.com/ carries just about anything available, maybe you have a more local industrial supply house?  As for chroming, most larger cities have plating shops that can do chrome, silver and gold plating and anodizing for aluminum....

Two USA possibilities.  I have dealt
with neither, but I think they
are both very good.

George,

In Melbourne it's easy;  I just go to SC Keable & Co, who have been selling nuts and bolts for a hundred years in the city.  Their range is astronomical and their prices good, but count on spending half an hour standing around until you are served.....

But you can also go to a number of francised stores which are right around the country.  Coventry Fasteners and Costless Bolts would likely have outlets in Hobart, certainly the former.  Their range is huge also.  Failing that, try any of the motor parts outlets as they have a huge range for the huge variety of cars in Australia.

The imported Umbrako Allen studs are wonderful, and if you really like 'em you can chrome 'em!

Cheers,

Hugh

Like Hugh I'd vote for Coventry Fasteners as they are likely to have an outlet down there...

You could always front up to the Marine Research Lab or workshop at CSIRO and the Australian Antarctic mob and see what they have in the leftovers pile.

Thanks for your help guys,

I did actually go into coventry fasteners yesterday, but there were about ten people waiting to be served so i left, unfortunately they have nothing on display so asking someone for something your not even sure about yourself is a bit painful for both parties, i wonder if they have a web site? if not Ill just have to go back in and hope they aren't so busy.

Cheers, George

This may be of no help at all so a phone call could save some grief...

I expect hobby shops dealing with RC cars, planes and boats would have some pretty fancy kit. They'll be anodized in colours ranging from hot pink to black. Expect to pay through the nose though, and know what size M3, M4, length your after if/when you call.
