Hagclock Testing Question
« on: 10 Aug 2005, 01:13 am »
Hi,

I've got my Hagclock built and ready to install in my Music Hall CD-25, but before I do I thought I'd post my test readings.  They are somewhat high compared to those in the manual.

I've got the 39pf at C15. I'm testing with a 13.8V power supply, no ground attached.

LED is lit OK
7.7V at +/-5V taps
.116V across R13
1.5V at CLK test

Are these reading a problem? If, so any hints for a fix?

Also, I picked up the replacement S/PDIF transformer from Digikey mentioned in the weblog, but I can't tell where it goes. Can you give me an idea where to look?

I can usually get things built OK, but my knowledge of electronics is pretty limited. Thanks for any help you can offer.

First of all, you'll need plus and minus supplies.  It won't work with a single supply, as there is no proper reference for ground.  I doubt you fried anything, though.

The tranny is a round metal shielded can with ferrite slug right near the output jack.  I hear the entire guts of the cd25.2 changed (without notice), so it could be different.  The stock tranny sukks more than you can imagine.  The dot (pin 1) on the digikey tranny is on the output side.  Don't tie anything to the middle pins (2 & 5).  Polarity doesn't matter.  I believe bi-phase encoding only works on edges, direction is not important.

jh :)
