How many of you guys have movie posters on display in your HT or HT area?

Having just gotten a couple of new posters in the last week (X-Men 3 & Equilibrium) was a reminder that I should really have a nicer way to display some of my posters.

I'd been looking at FashGraphFX light boxes as they seemed rather easy to swap out posters, weren't gaudy, weren't spendy, and used the proper lighting.

But they seemed to have disappeared. :(

Backlighting is really only essential with a couple of my posters. Mainly just the Lenticular ones. The motion or depth in a Lenticular poster is drastically easier to see if they're backlit. Backlighting a standard double sided poster is nicer than no backlight. But those look fine when they're not backlit.

And then there's the single sided & Holofoil (Matrix Reloaded teaser/Matrix Reloaded/Matrix Revolutions) posters that look a lot worse backlit. Especially the Holofoil Matrix posters. Those are awesome when they're not backlit, but almost impossible to see when they are.

So I guess I'd need 2 types of frames. One that's nicely backlit, and one that's not that has a similar appearance to the backlit one.

Any of you have any good suggestions for either?

Well, not sure I can help with the backlighted ones, but I've found a site for frames that I highly recommend.

www.americanframe.com

They have a nice selection of wood and metal frames at very reasonable prices.  Even the matting is reasonable.  They have an interactive ordering process where you can give your custom frame size (nearest 1/8 or 1/16, I don't remember) and you can even upload a picture of your art to see how it will look framed and matted - too cool.  You can do that and then play with frame and matt colors.

Custom sizes and MUCH less expensive than most other places I looked at.  One note - I have had issues with the interactive part not working correctly sometimes (won't take any input).

Thanks for the link.

But I don't see anything there that's movie poster oriented (large & easy to get into to change posters).

Looks like I could have one of their wood frame posters custom built to 27" x 41". But after the cost of that & what they'd want for shipping it comes in at about the same cost as a proper backlit frame.

Sorry, didn't realize you wanted 'real' movie frames with easy changeover capabilities.  I've bought several of these frames for movie posters and they worked quite well, but I don't have any intention of taking them out of their frames.

The prices were reasonable, depending on what you get, of course (and everyone has a different idea of what reasonable is).  The metal frames I got for a full sized (30 x 42 maybe) were less than $50 each.  The same size (custom) frame at a local place (including mounting labor) was $130.  A bit more than I wanted to spend on my great ebay bargain poster that I got for $12.

Good luck...

Hey, no problem. I guess I should've been more specific.

I've got a few dozen movie posters I'd guess. And only have 2 displayed at a time right now due to space & lack of more displays. I currently have posters in large clear rigid plastic sleeves. I've got it set up now so that there's 2 posters available to be displayed in each sleeve. I get a little tired of one, I just flip the sleeve over to the other side. Works ok for now, but I'd like to be able to swap posters out a little more frequently and have it be a whole lot easier than it is now.

The price on those is great. Especially since it sounds like it's for a pair of 'em. Frames like those are at least $500 a piece usually.

But I really don't care for frames like that. They're designed to grab your attention so that you look at what's in them. I'm a bit more fond of the frame being inconspicous and the poster grabbing your attention.

Thanks though.
