Athena AS-B1 + T-Amp combo question
« on: 26 Jul 2005, 03:53 am »
I was watching the Simpsons tonight through my T-amp and Athena AS-B1 speakers (89db 8ohms) and noticed distortion. I wonder if the dvd is really compressed or am I stressing my t-amp?

The volume was at 11 o'clock.

How were you powering the t-amp.  Also, what are you using as a source for the t-amp?  My guess would be under-powered.  When using the suggested AA-batteries, I would run into distortion much faster than when using the sealed lead-acid, although input-stage bypassing and power-cap upgrades came at the same time, so those very well could have been the issues.

Im using a 12v 7amp SLA battery for power. It shows a 12.4 volt charge on the meter. Its connected to my PC with a Chaintech soundcard. Funny thing is it doesnt distort when Im listening to music at a higher volume. The same dvd distorted a little with my pc speakers though. Most of the distortion comes from the Simpsons' voices.

Might very well be the encoding.
