Butler TDB's?
« on: 29 Dec 2005, 07:52 am »
Okay, I recall reading a bit about them here but I'm too lazy to search for it!   Any opinions on the Butler TDB3150 or 5150?  I'm intrigued, but would like some input from (hopefully) owners.

First, how warm do the run?  And how long do the tubes last?  I like to leave my amps on all the time, but obviously that's not such a good idea with tubes...

Second, how "gutsy" are they?  I'm curious what type of drive or "slam" one should expect from them in their MC configuration.  I wouldn't be running them full range in all likelihood, just running an easy load in my HT rig.  Easy load, but obviously they'll be expected to crank out good SPLs, too.

Lastly, how do they sound?  Are they especially "tubey" in the classical sense, or are they more new-breed types with SS virtues when it comes to dynamics?

Oh, yeah- I almost forgot...how bright are the tubes?   Will they light up the whole room while I'm trying to enjoy a movie in the dark?

Thanks for any input you can give me. :)
