One, two, or three box solution for HT/2ch set up?
« on: 22 Jul 2005, 09:38 am »
I have so many boxes, it's starting to get rediculous.  I have a Denon receiver, 3 Odyssey monoblocks, Tempest pre, DVD player, CD player, cable box, & power conditioner.  I've been thinking about sending in my Odyssey monos for the extreme upgrade, but they take up so much room, I may just want to cut ties with them.

I would like to replace my Denon AVR 4800, and get something with some of the newer HT formats.

I have a pair of Salk HT3s and HTC on order, and I'm looking for some suggestions to replace the Denon, Odyssey monos, and Tempest.  I'm thinking a nice pre/pro and 7ch amp might be a good idea, but I don't want to sacrifice good 2ch reproduction.

I don't want to spend too much more than the sale value of the Odyssey equipment which is somewhere around $3000.  I'll probably keep the Denon and put it in another system.

It doesn't have to be pre/pro and 7 channel amp.  It could be something like pre/pro, 3 channel, and 4 channel amps.

I have a medium size room and would like plenty of juice.

Any suggestions?

The Arcam AVP700 looks nice as a pre/pro.  Has anyone heard it?

I was in a similar situation a while ago. Stratos w/cap for mains & a Citation 4 ch. amp for the rest of the channels. I replaced both of the amps with the Integra Research RDA-7, 7 ch. amp. This amp is designed for IR by Balanced Audio Technologies (B.A.T.). It is a truely awsome amp, and does everything so much better than my previous setup. New thay were running $5,000, but can be had on the used market for around $2,000.

Hope this helps with the power side.

I am eyeing this one to replace my Outlaw 950/770 combo.  Should be available very soon.
