I've had a Chord 6 ch. power amp for the last 5+ years. I was drawn to it by it's clean and detailed sound. I've read reviews and some people don't like them at all. They think they're too grainy, etc. One reviewer actually liked the Odyssey amp better. However, I still play it now and then and it still holds up well.
I also have one of the earlier Chord preamps which I still don't care for. It's very detailed but no emotion in the result, even when paired with the Chord power amp, in my system anyway.
The best the Chord power amp sounded was paired with a McCormack MicroHeadphone Drive and using Belden 89259 teflon coax as interconnect (which I still use). It has great clarity and detail, dynamics without sounding etched or unmusical. Maybe this will give you some clue as to the required pairing of pre/power.
